Portonovo

Portonovo

A bay of white pebbles, Mediterranean scrub, and traditional seaside restaurants

Nestled directly at the foot of the northern slope of Mount Conero, Portonovo Bay represents one of the most iconic sceneries of the entire Adriatic coast. This stretch of coastline is distinguished by the presence of large white pebbles and smooth stones, natural elements that enhance the transparency and turquoise shades of the water. The seabed drops off quite rapidly, making this area a favorite destination for fans of swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving.

The shore is divided into two large areas separated by an ancient stone pier. Both sides offer a perfect balance between untouched nature and comfort: wide stretches of free beach alternate with well-equipped beach clubs. This bay is also famous for its restaurants built on stilts or terraces directly on the beach, where you can enjoy local fish specialties just a few meters from the water.

Reaching Portonovo is easy: you can arrive by car using the parking lots at the top or those adjacent to the beach, or use the frequent shuttle bus services active throughout the summer season.

What makes this beach special:
  • Famous for the prized wild "moscioli" (mussels).
  • Millenary small church directly on the beach.
  • Brackish lakes nestled in the greenery.
  • Napoleonic Fort rich in historical charm.
  • Unique breathtaking sunsets over the Adriatic.
